How our text alerts work.

Not sending yet. Text alerts are waiting on carrier registration. Everything below is the program as it will run the day it clears. Until then every alert goes out by email. You can already add a mobile number and opt in; we won’t text it until the program launches.

Campsite Ranger sends transactional text alerts only — a message when a campsite or permit you asked us to watch opens up, or when wildfire, smoke, or a closure affects your trip dates. We never send marketing texts. This page documents the whole program in public so you can see exactly what you’re agreeing to.

Program at a glance

How you opt in

Texts are off by default, and a mobile number is optional. You never need one to sign up, buy a plan, or use Campsite Ranger. To opt in, every one of these steps is required:

1. Enter your own mobile number in one of three places: the sign-in box at campsiteranger.com, the first screen of the trip planner, or account settings.
2. Check the text-alert consent box beside it. It’s separate from the number, unchecked by default, and can’t be checked until a number is entered.
3. Continue: send yourself the sign-in link, start the trip plan, or save your settings. We store the date, time, and exact wording version you agreed to.

A number saved without the box checked is never texted. Consent is never a condition of purchase, and we do not accept phone numbers from anyone but the account holder. You can switch between text, email, or both in account settings at any time.

Your mobile data

No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties. Your number goes to our messaging provider solely to deliver the alerts you asked for, and to no one else.
